Why doesn't my website bring me any business?
Good website design starts by asking questions
There are three things a designer need to understand before they start building a website: who the site is for, what it needs to say to them, and what you want your visitor to do next.
Many websites are created that don't properly address these questions. The site describes what the business does rather than what the reader needs. Pages come to an end with no guidance on what people should do next. Everyone judges the finished site on how it looks rather than whether it brings in leads and enquiries.
No website can make people want what you sell.
But a website built around those answers gives people more reasons to choose you.

I don't have time to write the content – who does that?
Website copywriting is included, and it comes first
Most website projects grind to a halt at the copywriting stage. The design arrives with placeholder text where the words should be, and writing the copy becomes another job you don't have time for.
When I build websites I write the copy first. All it requires from you is an hour or two of your time. I add my own research and produce a draft for you to approve.
A site is only designed once we've decided what it needs to say.
What if I want to move my website later?
A WordPress website is yours to take anywhere
Plenty of small businesses run their site on GoDaddy, Wix or Squarespace. Those platforms make starting easy, and for a while that's enough.
The trouble arrives later as you grow, when you want to add something the platform doesn't do, or move somewhere else, and find the site can't come with you.
I build all my sites using WordPress, so the site can grow with you. You own the code and the content outright. Your site can be picked up and hosted anywhere, by anyone, whenever you choose.
Owning the ground your business stands on has never been more important.

Why do website prices vary so much?
Website design prices reflect how much thinking happens
For less that £500 you can buy a template and paste your logo and words into it. The price is low because there is no strategy behind it.
Above that price, you can get someone to design your site, but you still have to write it.
Then, above that (where I sit), the designer works out what the site needs to do and say, and plans everything before a page is designed.
And beyond the £10,000 mark you're paying for functionality: online shops, membership areas, bespoke programming and systems that have to talk to each other.
Most established businesses don't need that functionality, but they do need the thinking.
Our website was out-dated and somewhat boring! Our experience [with you] was excellent. I had confidence that you would do a good job and if I had any problems I knew I could come to you.
I have not had that with previous website designers!

Sites built to be found
A website only brings in work if people can find it. Every site I build includes essential SEO setup: keyword research, page titles and descriptions, heading structure that makes sense to Google as well as to readers, clean URLs, alt text on images, and a sitemap submitted so new pages are indexed promptly.
The same groundwork helps with AI search. When someone asks ChatGPT or Google's AI summary for a recommendation, it pulls from pages with clear structure and straightforward answers to real questions. Sites built that way stand a better chance of being quoted.
Replacing a site can affect your search engine rankings if not done carefully. If you change your page addresses without redirecting the old ones, you'll lose the search positions you've earned. Every rebuild I do maps the old pages to the new ones.
Website Packages
Business Website
A complete site for an established business.
Single-Page Website
A page with one job: turning visitors into enquiries.
Branding & Website
A new identity and the site built around it.
Business Website – from £4,950
The full package for an established business.
A multi-page brochure website, typically six to twelve pages, with a blog section ready for you to publish into.
Each project starts with the words. I spend an hour or two with you, add my own research, and write the copy for every page before anything is designed. Commissioned separately, a copywriter would charge between £200 and £500 a page.
The structure follows – how many pages there are, what sits on each of them and how a visitor finds their way through. Only then do I design a consistent system for the whole site, which you approve. I then build every page against it, with on-page SEO included from the start.
After launch you begin a £45 per month Care Plan, which covers your hosting, backups, security and maintenance.
Two caveats: Blog articles are your department, but if writing those holds no appeal, I can quote separately to do that for you.
Selling online isn't part of this package. If you need e-commerce, I'll quote for it as its own project.
You launch with a site that presents the business you are now, with room to grow as you do.

Single-Page Website – from £1,850
One page with one job: turning visitors into enquiries.
Suited to a business with a straightforward offer that doesn't need a full site, and to campaigns, product launches and new ventures that need a presence without the scale.
The page starts with the words, written from a conversation with you, before anything is laid out. The legal pages you're required to have are included too, so the site is complete and compliant from the day it goes live.
Care Plan £45 a month after launch.
A small site, built to the same standard as a large one.

Branding & Website – from £6,900
Build your website around a new brand – at the same time.
Two services combined – my Brand Identity package and the Business Website package, booked as one project, with £500 off the combined price.
If your brand needs attention as well, handling both together produces a better result than doing them separately. The strategic thinking carries straight through from brand to screen, everything matches from the day you launch, and you deal with one person throughout.
Care Plan £45 a month after launch.
One project, one designer, and a brand and website that were made for each other.

Aftercare
Care Plan – £45 per month
Your site, looked after, without you having to think about it.
The Care Plan, payable once your site goes live, covers hosting fees, domain name renewal, backups, security, maintenance and simple amends.
Ownership and upkeep are separate things. The site is yours to take anywhere at any time – but while it's with me it's kept current, backed up and secure. Every site is hosted in the UK.
It's the reason my clients' sites still work properly years after launch.

Where to start
Most established businesses opt for the Business Website. Six to twelve pages, written and built around what the business does now.
If your offer is straightforward, or you need a presence for a campaign launch or a new venture, the Single-Page Website does the same job at a smaller scale.
And if your brand is showing its age as well, I can update your branding while building your site.
Not sure which fits? Tell me what the site needs to do and I'll recommend a starting point, with no obligation.
What the project asks from you
Website projects have a reputation for swallowing the owner's diary – but mine are built to avoid that.
After our first conversation, your part is responding to drafts at agreed points along the way. Planning, writing, designing and building is my department.
How long it takes
Most sites take four to six weeks from brief to launch, depending on size.
Adding branding extends that, since the identity needs settling before the site can be designed around it. Allow six to eight weeks for the two together.
Those timings assume feedback comes back within a few days at each stage, so the project can keep moving.
