The brief
As part of my ongoing relationship with David Granger Architectural Design, I was asked design to a new logo and signage for the Old Cottage Hospital, an office development in Ashby de la Zouch.
Having been vacated a few years earlier, the building was being renovated to act as David Granger Design’s new home, with rented office space on the first floor being made available to small local businesses.
The design
My design for the logo, and the typeface used, took their inspiration from the 1920s, when the building had been in its heyday as a community hospital. The logo includes a stylised version of the front fascia above the entrance doors of the building.
I experimented with straplines to see whether or not we needed to state the location, and in the end, we decided we did.

The approved logo was ideal for applying as cut vinyl lettering in the reception area.
Signage design
The outdoor signage is a three-sided totem which includes the branding for the building, the main logo for David Granger Design, as well as removable name indicators for the tenant on the first floor. There was room for more names as the offices were let. The sign needed to be visible while approaching the building from either direction, hence the triangle configuration.

The logo has since been applied to letterheads and press advertising.
